Discovering your passions in life is not always as easy as it seems. Sometimes, it can feel like your life has no exact goal and you’re just lost in a sea full of people who are certain of their ambitions. If you’re feeling this way, just know you’re not alone. This is exactly how I felt when first coming to college, and thankfully, I found a way out.

Anyone who knows me is aware that I consider myself to be the most indecisive person to walk this Earth. During my first semester at UCF, I was stuck in a loop of constantly comparing myself to the students around me and was left feeling directionless.

I am an introvert and knew I needed to get myself out of my comfort zone to grow as a person.

What helped me the most was sitting down and creating a mental note of all of the aspects of life that bring me joy. For example, I find it extremely rewarding to highlight the accomplishments and milestones of others, rather than having the spotlight on me. I had also noticed that I felt more creative and inspired when collaborating with a team than working by myself.

With all of this in mind, I sat and scrolled endlessly through the undergraduate major catalog offered at University of Central Florida and discovered Advertising/Public Relations, which checked all of my boxes. I was unsure if this was the right choice until I attended my first ever PR class. It felt comforting to meet other students going through a similar experience and finding their way through this industry. Through this class, I discovered Quotes, UCF’s Ad/PR club.

Not only has Quotes taught me the ins and outs of the Ad/PR industry, but it has also opened up the door for endless opportunities to gain first hand experience in this field. Between agency tours, panel discussions, Intern Pursuit, and so much more, there is always an opportunity to learn.

If it weren’t for Quotes, I would not have landed my first internship this summer with AdventHealth. I would not have been able to speak with Universal Orlando’s PR team and learn about their strategies for their biggest event of the year, Halloween Horror Nights! There truly is something for everyone with Quotes.

If you take anything from this, it should be to never feel afraid to step out of your comfort zone. You never know what opportunities are right around the corner. I am forever grateful I found my way to Quotes and UCF’s Ad/PR program, and I’m looking forward to seeing what the next two years of college bring me!
