As a former journalist, I spent countless hours chasing stories, conducting interviews, and carefully crafting articles that informed and engaged my readers. Journalism taught me the power of storytelling and the importance of relationships — particularly the ones I built with PR professionals. Whether through press releases, event pitches, or interviews, I gained firsthand insight into how PR acts as the bridge between the media and the public. Little did I know that those relationships would eventually steer me toward my next career chapter.

One pivotal moment came during an interview with an entrepreneur who had just launched her own PR agency. Hearing her discuss navigating the challenges of representing clients, managing reputations, and securing media coverage ignited something in me. Her passion for creating narratives and shaping public perception was contagious. I realized that as much as I loved reporting the news, I wanted to be the one shaping the story. That interview planted the seed for my shift into Ad/PR — a field that combines creativity, strategy, and relationships in a way that feels uniquely tailored to my strengths.

Of course, I’d be lying if I said my inspiration stopped there. I have to give a cheeky nod to Meredith Blake, the character from “The Parent Trap.” There’s something about her polished, take-charge demeanor and knack for commanding attention that resonates with me (minus the scheming, of course). While her character was designed to ruffle feathers, her confidence and sharpness left a lasting impression, reminding me that PR is as much about presence as it is about strategy.

What draws me to PR is its dynamic nature. I’m fascinated by how media shapes public perception and how PR professionals manage and maintain those relationships. The challenge of managing an individual’s or organization’s image, especially in high-stakes scenarios, is an adrenaline rush I crave. Whether it’s crafting a press release, strategizing a media campaign, or working through a crisis, PR is where creativity and strategy meet in a way that’s deeply compelling to me.

My long-term goals reflect that passion. I’m particularly interested in the niche field of litigation public relations, where I can manage press and public perception during high-profile trials. The idea of crafting strategic narratives, protecting reputations, and navigating media challenges in sensitive legal situations excites me. There’s an undeniable challenge in maintaining transparency while protecting the interests of clients, a balance I’m eager to master.

Additionally, I aspire to work as a publicist representing individual clients, particularly in entertainment or other high-visibility industries. I’m drawn to the opportunity to create personalized PR strategies and build one-on-one relationships that amplify a client’s success while safeguarding their public image. The idea of being a trusted advisor and champion for someone’s public journey is both motivating and rewarding.

Transitioning from journalism to Ad/PR feels like a natural progression for me. I’ve seen the symbiotic relationship between these fields up close, and I’m excited to take my skills as a storyteller, relationship builder, and strategist into this new chapter. Every day in PR is an opportunity to learn, grow, and contribute to a field that feels as exhilarating as it is essential.
